About Me:
About me…
Immediately following high school, I attended and graduated from a practical nursing program. Practical nursing had taught me the essentials of the nursing profession, along with the attributes necessary to possess in nursing. Shortly after earning licensure as a practical nurse, I continued my education and completed a registered nursing program. Throughout my nursing education, I have donated much of my time to various charities and health-related causes. For years, I have served as a participant and fundraiser for annual walk-a-thon campaigns supporting The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the March of Dimes, as well as have supported the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) as a volunteer advocate and resource person. My association with these organizations is an attempt to heighten awareness of these ailments to the general public, and to actively support those directly affected by such diseases. I feel that maintaining strong affiliations in community service is imperative in the development of a productive, dynamic professional.
I am presently employed at the local community hospital, as the nurse in their general surgery clinic. I have been in this position for the past few years and really love what I do. If my colleagues were asked to describe me as a professional, I think they would agree that I am a highly motivated individual, who displays strong interpersonal skills, with a pleasant and professional demeanor. I have taken my nursing education seriously, have consistently achieved high honors, and hold the profession with the utmost integrity and enthusiasm. My previous work and educational experiences have provided me with a number of skills in which I am now proficient. Additionally, the experiences I have secured participating in various community and volunteer efforts has fostered my personal growth and professional development, and will further serve as a strong bridge to my graduate nursing study.
Why did I become a nurse and what do I hope to accomplish?
As a teen-ager many years ago, I developed the life-threatening illness of anorexia nervosa, facilitated primarily by the pressures from society and its demands to be thin. I witnessed my life plummet from sheer normalcy into a rigid cycle revolving around strict starvation and self-destruction. Having survived and recovered, I strive to help others affected by this and all other debilitating illnesses. It was after this incident that my desire to be a nurse had blossomed.
As a healthcare professional, I strive to help those in my community achieve and maintain their optimum levels of health and wellness. Having recently achieved my goal of becoming a registered nurse, I've further acquired the realization of my passion to nurture others, and have now decided to advance my studies to become a family nurse practitioner. My objective with this degree is to provide more care and added services to the patients in the community, focusing largely on health promotion and disease prevention. Our rural community has been federally designated as medically-underserved, and having a primary care mid-level practitioner here would allow me to offer more to those in need of nursing and medical care.
I plan to continue thriving not only in my studies, but in the nursing profession in general. I will proudly uphold the strict standards of nursing practice and provide the finest quality of care to my patients, without regard of self. I will remain committed to the nursing profession, remain knowledgeable of new innovations in medicine, and will readily offer counsel and support to those unacquainted with such advances. I will aspire to truly make a difference in the lives of my patients and embrace them with respect and admiration. I will continue to support health-related causes, dedicating time and energy to advocate for public benefit. These commitments, which directly illustrate my integrity, substantiate my sincere desire to help others. My enthusiasm and motivation to learn, coupled with my solid nursing experience and the achievement of high honors in my academic coursework, ensure my continued success with this new endeavor.
